Working for our students, our staff, and the best community in Ohio; Mason!
Ian Orr has lived in Mason for 18 years and is currently the President of the School Board. In the past four years on the school board he has put into action his belief that our school district is the cornerstone of our community because it brings us together and creates opportunities for all of us to learn, grow, and serve. Growing opportunity for each student and staff member while delivering value to our community is central to his work on the MCS Board of Education. Ian shares his Comet Country pride with his wife, Jessica, a resident of Mason for 25 years, and their 4 children — 3 Comet graduates and 1 future Comet graduate.
To our students, staff, supportive parents, and community has been demonstrated through his willingness to show up and receive feedback. It also means, taking that feedback and using it to make our district better.
With fellow board members, MCS administration, and families so that we have clarity around district goals and direction. He has been integral in helping to make sure that we are giving actionable information that helps families, students, and staff make decisions.
He believes that transparency and honesty is good stewardship, which is an integral part of our collective success. He has lived out this belief by not only making himself available to the community in order to hear from them but to also share the district's priorities and vision with them.
Ian believes Public Service starts with showing up. As such, he is committed to being at his committee, work, and regular session meetings in his four years of service to the board. He has served, or is serving, on multiple superintendent committees within the district; Finance, Student Achievement, Athletics, Business Advisory, and Diversity. The committee meetings are where much of the work of the district is refined and solidified before it is implemented. Prior to Ian's service on the Board he served in the community in several capacities and is deeply grateful and humbled at the chance to continue to serve the district as a member of its Board of Education. With expertise in Risk Management & Insurance, Ian will persist in using his professional skills to enhance the district's value proposition to the community with a collaborative mindset in order to make thoughtful, principled, and well-informed decisions that are future-focused.
He values transparency in the work of the school board therefore, he has made himself accessible to staff, students, and the community. Ian Orr is a champion and an advocate for our incredible students, our diverse community, and our wonderful staff. He looks forward to continuing to make an impact on school board for the best district in Ohio: Mason City Schools!
